"Good Welcome!"
these were the first jumbled words out of the host of talk Alabama, a segment of good morning alabama on abc 33/40. It had already seemed like a long morning and it was only around 9am. With equiment loaded in and after stumbling through a somewhat chaotic soundcheck with the scare of Dallas' amp malfunctioning, Alice Gillee stood around waiting for our chance to play for our invisible audience of housewives across Alabama. They wouldn't know what hit em! I answered best I could the question of "what inspires you?" and somehow managed to remember everyones name in this monster of a band. With the annoying question behind me(I'm an artist- everything inspires me), Josh snappedout the count and it was smooth sailing from there. With tv being mostly preparation for a few minutes of bang, it was clear by the end that though we did enjoy the opprotunity to share our music on a large scale like tv, we are searching for something more than pretty lights and nice backdrops. Music is meant to be experienced and I think today people have strayed away with the ability to put your earbuds in, select shuffle, and start your day with your own person soundtrack. Music is being pushed to the background because the type of music that is coming out these days can be placed there. But music at its best moment is supposed to make you stop and listen, because it is something you must listen to beginning to end to get the full effect. Dropping in on the middle of a conversation rarely works...you end up having to go back to the start and fill in what was missing if the end result was interesting enough. Thats how I want our music to be, good enough to catch a listeners ear and cause them to want to full picture of what we are saying with our song. Alice Gillee is blossoming into a woman you hear speaking and you coming closer because her voice is sweet, not nagging or anal, the sound of her taking makes you listen, and once you hear what she's really saying, you like her that much more.
